Produced by Dassault-Breguet, this multimission fighter entered service in 1973. With its high-fixed conventional wing the F1C has shorter takeoff and landing distance, better endurance, range, and maneuverability than its predecessor, the Mirage III. Equipped with Cyrano IV radar and the excellent combination of Magic and Super 530 AAMs, the F1C is one of the best interceptors in Western Europe, though its low thrust-to-weight ratio puts it at a disadvantage in close air combat. Over 700 have been produced, mostly for export (often in the ground-attack role) and several of these figured prominently in the Iraqi air force during Desert Storm.
